In this lesson an extract is used to analyse Old Major’s Speech from Chapter 1 of the novel. Activities support examining Orwell’s use of language to manipulate / influence the other animals. The extract is taken from Chapter 1 of the novel. The extract has activities to support weaker students to look closely at language features.
A creative writing activity is also included in the lesson which also looks at the effect of the speech on the other animals.
