Richard Branson fulfilled a personal dream by going to the edge of Space. The picture I have chosen shows a very happy man fulfilling a dream. He beat his fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos by days to be the first billionaire space company founder to ride in his own spacecraft. Originally he was to fly on its second last flight but it was brought forward. I have created a phrase and vocabulary sheet - I created a blank so you could choose which of the 3 pictures you preferred. There is also a blank comic strip. I hope the children enjoy using the sheet.

Thursday, 26th August 2021 Jaco van Gass, who was born in South Africa, has just won GB another gold medal. Jaco, a member of the British Armed Forces Parachute Regiment before he was seriously injured by a RPG (Rocket Propelled Granade)has just won the Men’s 3,000 Cycling Pursuit gold medal.

I have put together 3 sheet connected with Global warming. There is a’Yes to ’ and 'No to 'sheet . The second sheet is a Thesaurus of hopefully useful list of positive words to use. The third sheet is Poetry Aid in case the children want to try and write a poem about Global Warming…

The sales have started. I have created a phrase/ vocabulary sheet and a poetry aid about the New Year Sales.

FEAR - False Evidence Appearing Real. I have written five phrase/vocabulary sheets relating to fear - Dream or Nightmare, Examination Nerves, In the Dentist Chair, Meeting a Ghost and Haunted House. Three example ideas have been added plus a Poetry Aid relating to Fear. The hope is the children can use the phrases and vocabulary sheets, or the Poetry Aid to create some interesting creative writing.

I decided to create a poetry aid to go with my Snow and Ice material. I have included a Thaw vocabulary and poetry aid, a vocabulary sheet about flooding plus a clip art picture for best copy. Thawing snow combined with heavy rain can create serious flooding,

I have put together several vocabularies which I hope will encourage children to write about themselves. Self Portrait will get them to ‘draw’ in both picture and words themselves. Hobbies and interests They might even like to try and write a diary - useful phrases and word bank given. In lock down perhaps they have been asked to help with DIY. When I grow up - a chance to write down their dreams and ambitions. Pranks - they might like to try one and write about the outcome/consequences! Most children have or want a pet - 2 sets to choose from. Cycling - most, if not all children have ridden a bicycle. There is a chance to write either prose or attempt poetry.

I have attempted to create 2 mini crossword sheets, one on Climate Change, the other on the environment. The idea is that the pupils look for words within the two main words. They then make ‘mini’ crosswords, They then make clues for 2 of the crosswords. and give the crossword to friends to solve. Please note the ‘master’ sheet contains words which do NOT appear in the Collins English Dictionary. Something a little different to try.

Mainly in Wikipedia I have found further information about 10 case studies mentioned in *The History of the Asian Community in Britain. Sake Dean Mahomed (1750-1851)- a surgeon. Dadabhai Naoroji (1825-1917)- the first Asian to become a British MP. Mancherjee Bhownaggree (1851-1933)- a British Conservative party politician. Shapurji Saklatvala (1874-1936 - first Indian politician to become an MP for the Labour party. He was also a member of the Communist Party. Kamal Chunchie became an ordained minister in the Methodist church. In 1926he started a mission called the Colour Men’s Institute in Canning Town, London - spoke 8 languages (died 1953 Jaint Dass Saggar (1898-1954) - an Indian doctor who became the first non-white local authority councilor in Scotland. Joyful Clemantine Wamariya at the age of 6 , with her older sister Claire,was forced to leave her home in Rwanda following the Rwandan Genocide in April. 1994. They went first to their grandparents but they were also targeted. They sought refuge in 7 countries over 6 years until they were granted refugee asylum in the USA in 2000. She began formal schooling at the age of 13. In 2006 she submitted an essay for a national high school contest on Elie Wiesel’s Holocaust Memoir, Night. She won and was invited to go on the Oprah Winfrey show with her sister. To their wonderful surprise their parents, who they knew had survived the genocide,had been flown in from Rwanda. They had spoken on the 'phone but had not seen them for 12 years. After her appearance on the show event organizers, especially in the humanitarian aid sector, have invited her to speak. While at Yale she carried her storytelling across the USA for the United Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM). President Obama in recognition of her work appointer her to the Board. She has since appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show 3 times and her appearances have gained her international attention. She studied comparative literature at Yale University. After university she met Elizabeth Weil. What started as a feature- length article two years later in 2018 resulted in The Girl Who Smiles Beads: A story about War and What comes After. The book became a New York Times best seller Clemantine now works as a human rights advocate fighting for the unprivileged and championing justice.

I have put together a number of former SATS style questions (11) where the children had to think of themselves in various situations. From visiting a market place, to How long can I stay up?, choosing a charity to raise money for, dreams, favourite meals, memories, moving house, pranks, talent competitions,flying in air balloon and left in charge of the classroom. For 9 of them I have also given example answers. There is also a Poetry Aid if they want to put their thoughts to verse.

I have put together a number of differentiated diaries to allow for different times in the week. There is a mixture of ‘self’ topics starting with self portrait. From having an accident/being ill to celebrating a birthday. From Red Nose day to attending a carnival . A chance to write about hobbies or help dad/mum with some DIY.

Jupiter Hammon is known as the founder of African - American literature. His poem An Evening Thought;Salvation by Christ, with Penitential Cries (EVSCPC), published in 1761, was the first by an African-American in North America. (Read copy of poem) Born into slavery he became a devoted Christian evangelist preacher. He was also a commercial clerk on long island. New York. He was a slave of the Lloyd family. He was born at the Lloyd Manor (now Lloyd Harbor). He served 4 generations of the Lloyd family for his entire life Like the Lloyds family Jupiter was a fervent Christian. Aged 22 he bought a bible from his master for 7 shillings and 6 pence. His writings reflected his spirituality. I Jupiter received rudimentary education through the Anglican Church’s Society of the Gospel in Foreign parts system. His ability to read and write aided the Lloyds in their commercial businesses and helped him exhibit a level of intellectual awareness through literature. EVSCPC was his first published poem. Composed on 25th December, Christmas day 1760 it appeared as a 'broadside in 1761. An Address to Miss Phillis Wheatley, 18 years later, was his second work to appear in print. The dedicated poem, to a fellow black slave, contained 21 rhyming quatrains (4 lines) , each accompanied by a Biblical verse -thinking it would help her Christian journey. On 24th September 1786, aged 76, and still a slave, Jupiter said this famous quote during his speech at the inaugural meeting of the African Society in New York City , If we should get to heaven, we shall find nobody to reproach us for being black, or for being slaves. He knew that slavery was deeply entrenched in American society and that immediate emancipation of all slaves would be difficult to achieve, The exact year of Jupiter Hammon’s death is unknown but it is believed he died in 1806. I came across information about 10 Asian Christian Women during my research. I have set them up in alphabetically order and found extra information on 8 of them. Angie Hong - a Korean-American worship leader, speaker and writer. Dr Grace Ji-Sun Kim - a Korean American theologian and professor - best known for her work on the social and religious experiences of Korean women immigrants in N. America. Dr. Havilah Dharamraj - she is passionate about South Asian Christian leaders to understand the Word of God within the Asian context. HeeSun Lee is a Christian hip hop artist. She is vocal about her faith and uses her singles and albums to not only talk about Jesus but elevate her diverse experiences as a bicultural Korean American Christian Hosanna Wong - she has a unique storytelling voice in which she explores faith and identity through first hand experiences of lose, hope and redemption. Dr. Jayachitra Lalitha- she is an ordained minister of the Church of South India, She holds a number of roles at Tamilnadu Theological Seminary - associate professor, dean of the women’s studies dept. and coordinator of the women’s centre.
