This lesson helps students explain how older crimes such as theft, smuggling and terrorism still exist but have developed with the use of more sophisticated methods, in particular, with advances in technology and science. UPDATED & RE-VAMPED CONTENT IN LINE WITH THE 2026 SPEC The 22 slide fully resourced lesson contains activities, tasks, practice exam questions, printable resources and all background knowledge: Slide 1: Title slide Slide 2: Warm Up 1 - Students are given 12 crimes and have to sort them into the correct category of crime. Slide 3: Warm Up 2 - Students have to think of a crime for each letter of the alphabet. Answers in the notes section of the slide. Slide 4: A printable worksheet which contains both warm up activities. Slide 5-6: Recap - An 8 question multiple choice quiz covering newly defined crimes in the modern period. Answers given. Slide 7-9: Key Term Crime Match Up - Students have to define what the crimes are. Includes answers and printable answer sheet. Slide 10: Task 1 - Students use the fact sheet to compare how selected crimes were carried out in the past compared with the modern period. Slide 11-12: Task 2 - Students are given a list of 10 crimes and have to decide if they are newly defined crimes or older crimes which use more modern methods. Slide 13-14: Task 3 - A worksheet activity for students to record more specific facts about the changing nature and methods of crime.
