Why Is Jesus Called the Suffering Servant? – KS3 Catholic RE Lesson

This thoughtful and fully resourced lesson helps students explore the title ‘Suffering Servant’ and what it reveals about Jesus’ mission and purpose. Aligned with the Catholic KS3 Religious Education Directory (RED) and based on the KS3 Source & Summit Year 8 textbook, this lesson makes clear links between Isaiah’s Servant Songs and Jesus’ suffering and death in Mark’s Gospel.

With engaging activities, clear explanations, source analysis and discussion tasks, students will reflect on how the idea of a suffering messiah shapes Catholic beliefs about redemption and salvation. Perfect for KS3 RE teachers seeking a structured, accessible and thought-provoking lesson.
