Slaves in Rome were resigned to violence against them.
Pernicious gratuitous things could be done against them according to the abstruse Roman law.
The Senate was inundated and elicited to have masters refrain from hateful acts.
But, this was not a solution.
Masters obdurately did as they pleased.
However; slaves had some optimists among them.
Slaves in ancient Rome endured regular violence without protest.
Roman law—complex and often cruel—allowed for harsh treatment with little consequence.
Although the Senate attempted to discourage extreme abuses by urging masters to
show restraint, these efforts were largely ineffective.
Many masters stubbornly continued their brutal behavior.
Even so, some enslaved individuals held on to hope and believed in a better future.
