This introduces Y5/KS2 pupils to the Greenhouse Effect and inparticular, the effect of carbon dioxide in the earth’s atmosphere. The lesson includes a worksheet resource with ‘exit ticket’ task as well as a differentiated (working at KS1 level) version of the resource sheet.

There is a practical task (demonstration) within the lesson involving a heat lamp (or lamp without energy saving bulb in, or radiator), bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar, thermometers (I used x2 baby bath thermometers), large jars (I just got these from B&M), ice cubes (stored in a vacuum flask), weighing scales, spoon and measuring jugs. There are several versions of this experiment available online if you need further exemplification.

This was originally a 30-40 minute fast-paced interview lesson (I got the job!). You can very easily teach it at a regular pace to make it longer. The school are working towards eco-school status.
