Interactive lesson, tracking the timeline of the Arms Race and focusing on tensions during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Teacher notes provided on questioning, and resources fully adapted for HA, MA and LA classes/ groups of students.

The lesson is in the style of ActiveHistory and requires student physical participation in acting out parts of the Arms Race. A worksheet is provided for students to complete while the activity unfolds, and there are a selection of questions to be used following the activity which you can tailor to your class/ curriculum.

The PowerPoint includes some images of maps outlining the impact zone if a nuclear bomb was dropped on Birmingham. You can get the same maps for other areas by using the ChatGPT promot ‘generate a map of the impact of an atomic bomb of 15,000 kilotonnes with airburst deployment on X’ and then ‘generate a map of the impact of an atomic bomb of 50,000 megatonnes with airburst deployment on X’

Please note, the PowerPoint is an accompaniment to the activity rather than the other way around.

Chat GPT has been used in this lesson to generate images.
