

This paper explores various ways to incorporate slang into classroom activities to support English language learners’ literacy development. I outline how to deal with these two aspects of teaching English slang in our EFL classroom.
For students who are not familiar with informal and slang English, the paper outlines techniques to introduce informal English in the classroom. For students who are already familiar with English slang, the paper discusses how to help students practice its use and explain the various settings in which such informal language is appropriate. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate why slang is so useful to TEFL. Learning a new language is one of the most useful ways to spend your time, with both immediate and long term benefits for work, travel and even well being.
