Get your learners excited about cinema with this versatile resource based on recently released trailers. By examining the latest promotional material for upcoming films, learners will consider how stories are constructed and how trailers persuade audiences to watch films on the big screen.

Through this resource, pupils will develop their oracy skills using a range of trailers as stimulus material. All the activities in the resource offer opportunities for exploratory talk, discussion and presentation.

The resource can also complement learning in a range of subjects, including English/literacy and communication, expressive arts, music, art, drama and PSHE/health and wellbeing.

Talking About Trailers offers flexibility, allowing teachers freedom to choose their focus, the number of tasks to complete and the duration of the activity. Teachers can select one or more trailers from our carefully curated playlist (available at ) plus a specific focus area for learners to explore in greater depth.

The class will start the session by discussing what a trailer is, what it is for and what viewers typically expect to see. Teachers can then select which focus area they would like to develop, choosing from the topics of colour, camerawork, character, story, setting, sound and the cinema environment.

All the topics in this resource present classes with the opportunity to develop oracy, focusing on the skills of presentation, role play and discussion.

Please ensure you select an appropriate trailer for the age group you are teaching.
