Pupils love being creative with this hands-on project. Students are tasked with designing and building a geodesic dome out of jelly sweets and cocktail sticks.
In this project, students are introduced to the benefits of geodesic domes and rigid structures in engineering, linking to biomimicry. Students familiarise themselves with the keywords; there is a design task (estate agent advert for their dome) before applying their understanding of engineering principles in a practical task where they create a dome out of sweets and cocktail sticks. The lesson has strong cross-curricular links, particularly with Maths, Science and Engineering. There is also peer assessment with clear success criteria included.
