Pupils will explore how shopping has changed over time and consider reasons for these changes. Lesson structure:
★ Starter – Introduce modern shopping items and discuss where pupils buy them. Compare with a 1950s shop photograph and prompt observations.
★ Main Activity – Explore changes in shops using the PowerPoint and a timeline of key developments. Pupils work in groups to compare modern and past maps of their local area, adding past shops with drawings or labels. Differentiation provided with a word bank and extension notes for older pupils.
★ Plenary – Share findings and discuss the biggest differences between shops past and present. Use photos for pupils to identify whether they are from the past or present and explain reasoning.
