Help your pupils master skimming and scanning with these high-impact, low-prep Reading Radar challenges.

This resource includes four original texts (two fiction, one non-fiction, one poem), each paired with a set of “Radar Challenges” that guide pupils to locate and mark information. Children are asked to underline, circle, tick or annotate specific words, phrases and sections of text - with three levels of challenge included on each task:

  • Spotting Signal: literal retrieval
  • Tracking Target: vocabulary and impression
  • Locking On: light inference and subtle interpretation

What’s Included:

  • Reading Radar 1: The Last Torch (narrative)
  • Reading Radar 2: Whispers in the Forest (narrative)
  • Reading Radar 3: Secrets of the Deep Sea (non-fiction)
  • Reading Radar 4: The Wind’s Tale (poetry)
  • Challenge sheet for each text

Designed for marking directly on the page
