This activity explores the Supreme Court case Morehead v. New York ex rel. Tipaldo (1936), which tested whether states could require a minimum wage for women workers. The Court struck down the law, saying it violated the freedom of contract and gave the government too much control over private business. The case shows how the Constitution was used to limit worker protections during the Great Depression, but also sparked debate about the government’s role in helping people during hard times.
