These lively lesson starter grammar-based activities are designed to consolidate phonics knowledge and build confidence in English word classes for year 3 learners. In Noun Knock-In Alphabet, pupils pick a letter card and list three nouns (people, places, or things) linked to that letter. Adjective Alphabet encourages learners to choose a letter and generate an adjective, using it to describe something in a sentence. In Verb Vault, pupils pick a letter and think of action words they can act out. Pick & Position! strengthens understanding of prepositions, challenging children to think of one that contains their chosen letter or sound. Conjunction Junction: FANBOYS Edition targets coordinating conjunctions, guiding pupils to construct compound sentences using for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so. Wabub’s Wonderful Words introduces subordinating conjunctions through the I SAW A WABUB acronym, with flashcards helping pupils write complex sentences using when, although, before, and more. Each game is interactive, visually engaging, and rooted in purposeful grammar practice. I used ChatGPT to generate the Instructions cards and the letters and sounds flashcards from Canva.
