An SEN science lesson about how fossils are formed in sedimentary rocks, from the KS 2 National Curriculum.
Opening activity are some questions about rocks to recap (with prompts), a quick speaking and listening task, some key learning, a BBC bitesize video, and a worksheet activity (fill in the blanks, experiment, story board for fossils being formed)
Using bread, pupils can put a gummy on, add another slice, add a gummy, etc. When pupils press the bread down the way sediment would be compacted, and then lift off the bread, they will see the imprint of their gummy very clearly. This is how a fossil is made.
