


Students study the places of medical care in Medieval England which a focus on Church run hospitals and care within the community and home.

- Slide 1: Title slide
- Slide 2: Warm Up - Students think about what they can infer from a map showing the modern hospitals named after Saints. Answers provided in the notes section.
- Slide 3-4: Recap - Students recap the main roles/people responsible for care and treatment in Medieval England by using key words linked to their work. Answers provided.
- Slide 5: Starter Activity 1 - How would students describe modern hospitals? Prompt questions and ideas provided to help with discussion.
- Slide 6: Starter Activity 2 - Students use an illustration of a Medieval hospital to describe facts about them. Prompt questions provided.
- Slide 7: Starter Activity 3 - Students are given a printable resource with an image of a Medieval and modern hospital ward. They have to discuss and outline the similarities and differences between them.
- Slide 8-9: Background information covering the early development of hospitals and their links to the Church and Christianity.
- Slide 10-11: Task 1 - Students are provided with a printable worksheet from which they can go on to complete a diary entry from a person in a Medieval hospital. Sentence starters provided with printable resources.
- Slide 12: Alternative Task - A printable worksheet about Medieval hospitals and home care based on the lesson fact sheet.
