This emotive and thought-provoking writing unit uses The Piano (Literacy Shed) as a stimulus for developing narrative writing through flashback. Children will explore themes of memory, war, and loss as they craft their own five-paragraph story, embedding a flashback set in the Victorian era.
Through carefully sequenced lessons, pupils will develop their use of grammar and punctuation to enhance meaning and mood. The unit includes modelled writing, scaffolds, and rich discussion opportunities to help children deepen their understanding of character, setting, and emotional impact.
