A presentation and worksheets perfect for reinforcing and consolidating phonics knowledge. Students look at groups of four images and decide which one is different (a bit fishy!) based on one of six categories:
- initial sounds
- final sounds
- medial sounds
- rhyming words
- syllables
- compound words
There are fifteen questions for each category, so this resource can be used over many days or weeks.
The presentation is perfect for a whole class starter activity or for use 1:1 or with a small group targeting the areas identified as needing reinforcing.
The use of images is a great way to support students with English as an additional language, or those with additional learning needs, extending vocabulary at the same time. Explaining choices encourages reasoning skills and expressing opinions.
Worksheets can be used for independent work, or laminated and used with dry wipe pens, or used for home learning. Alternatively, images can be cut up for sorting activities.
