Included is a full textile project for KS3 or 4 Design and Technology (AQA). Resources include a 122 slide powerpoint which sets out the following brief and learning outcomes:
Project Brief:
Design and create a functional tote bag inspired by William Morris for Primark. The bag must appeal to your chosen target market and incorporate the following features:
Tie-dye handles.
A hand painted stencil design, created using a laser cutter.
A needle-felted design element for added texture and detail.
Functional features suitable for everyday use, such as strong seams and appropriately sized handles.
By the end of this project, students will be able to:
Develop design ideas inspired by a historical style (William Morris) and adapt them to suit a modern client (Primark).
Understand and apply different decorative techniques (tie-dye, stencil painting, and needle-felting) to a fabric product.
Demonstrate proficiency in using tools and equipment, such as the sewing machine and laser cutter, to create a functional tote bag.
Evaluate their design and manufacturing processes critically, identifying strengths, challenges, and areas for improvement.
The powerpoint features theory lessons on fibres and fabrics, as well as 16 individual tasks that help students mimic a coursework project from research, initial design ideas, testing, manufacture and evaluation.
The powerpoint includes visual resources, templates to complete various tasks such as design specifications and a multitude of differentiated templates and writing resources.
Included with this download is an assessment tracker sheet with learning objectives and expectations to assess students work similar to a coursework project.
Images of Morris’s work have been taken from Google images and some exemplar coursework has been taken from AQA website.
