Learning objectives
To describe ‘Pop Art’ and recognise the famous Pop Art artist Andy Warhol and his work.
To look at popular images, shapes, colour and pattern in Pop Art pictures and talk about what they might represent.
To try out Pop Art techniques in my own artwork.
To create my own Pop Art composition using shape, colour and pattern and evaluate my work.
The lesson includes brief information about Warhol’s life and how he created pop art using examples of his most recognisable work. There are opportunities for pupils to work in paired tasks to discuss techniques and use of pattern and shapes and why pop art was so different.
Art tasks include: Creating pattern using 4 blank tin cans (worksheet), using pattern techniques of flowers (worksheet), printing patterns using everyday objects or hands.
There is also an opportunity for the class to create their own pop art piece of ‘famous people or characters’ inspired by Marilyn Monroe pop art for a class exhibition (blank grid of 4 squares provided).
