A unit designed for ACARA version 9. Lessons designed for 70 minute periods with a mixed range of abilities.

For a warm up students copy some key terms into their glossary (underlined info) – audience, impact, representation. Then we move on to teaching students what a thesis statement is and how to write one. There is an example about sandwiches and a non example. There are also examples for our topic (about influencers) – one to a C standard and one to an A standard. There is a writing activity for students to write a thesis statement about the best flavour of ice cream. Then there are some we do’s about civics related topics. Finally there is a you do about a civics related topic. Then there is a 12 minute viewing activity from 60 minutes. If time afterwards there is information about the psychology of influencers – trust and reliability. There is also information about “social proof” and them being a type of “aspirational identity.” There is also the term “parasocial relationships” which is explained for students to add to their vocabulary list.
