This Gladiator II (R - 2024) Movie Guide will challenge students to think critically about the concept of Rome—both as a historical empire and as a symbol of ideals, identity, and power. Through the lens of Gladiator II (2024), students will examine how contrasting beliefs—like Hanno’s hope for a Rome built on justice and Macrinus’s embrace of violence and dominance—create deep conflicts. Using carefully constructed scenes, historical flashbacks, and intense dialogue, students will analyze how characters like Lucilla, Acacius, and Hanno represent the fragility of ideals, while Macrinus reflects Rome’s descent into spectacle. From exploring ancient warfare tactics like firebombs and catapults to uncovering the meanings behind quotes from Virgil and Marcus Aurelius, learners will apply historical context to narrative choices. Encourage students to debate whether ideals can survive in societies consumed by fear and control. This Out of My Mind Movie Guide challenges students to reflect on how people are judged based on how they look or act, and not always by who they are inside. Examine how Melody’s journey reveals the importance of finding your voice, even when others don’t listen. Explore how different characters—like her parents, teachers, and classmates—react to Melody once she starts using the Medi-Talker. Compare the way her relationships with Rose and her teachers shift as she proves how intelligent she is. Encourage students to connect Melody’s experiences to their own lives and consider how they’ve treated or responded to someone with disabilities. Ask students to think about how real friendship is shown not just through words, but through actions and inclusion. Debate whether schools help or hurt students who learn or communicate differently, and what true support should look like.
