Thoughts–Feelings–Behaviours Cycle – Teacher Resource Pack (KS1 & KS2)

This resource helps children explore how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are linked in a cycle. Pupils learn that a thought can affect how they feel, a feeling can affect what they do, and behaviours can influence future thoughts. By noticing the cycle, children can learn how to pause, reflect, and make positive changes.

What’s included:

Introduction & teacher notes – clear guidance on how to introduce the TFB cycle, with simple brain science (amygdala, basal ganglia and prefrontal cortex).

Examples to suggest to pupils – 10 unhelpful and 10 helpful cycle examples.

Circle time prompts (6) and talking token questions (6) for group discussion.

Two worksheet activities:

  • Spot the Cycle – identifying missing parts of the cycle.
  • Change the Cycle – practising how to shift one part to create a new outcome.
  • Movement break – Body Circles to notice how the body feels.
  • Breathing technique – Triangle Breathing, linked to the cycle visual.
  • Poster prompts – 20 reflection questions for classroom display.
  • Curriculum links – mapped to RSHE/PSHE statutory objectives for KS1 & KS2, with official H codes.
  • 5 Ways to Wellbeing – Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning, Give.

Perfect for PSHE, circle time, wellbeing lessons, nurture groups, or whole-class teaching.
