This KS3 lesson explores the impact of the British Empire on the Caribbean, asking students to evaluate whether it brought progress—or lasting problems for these islands. Through engaging tasks and structured activities, pupils will investigate how the Caribbean was colonised, how slavery and the sugar trade shaped the region, and how British rule affected economic and social development into the present.
Students will also assess the long-term consequences of empire, such as inequality, migration, independence movements, and current demands for reparations. This lesson develops key historical skills through graph work, debate, and extended writing.
