The method (select, explore, explain, consolidate) method, and was developed by Alex Quigley. For vocabulary acquisition to be successful, it is important for educators to preselect vocabulary that they would like to embed in learners (Beck, 2013). This can be decided at the start of a scheme of learning; for instance, preselected vocabulary for a scheme exploring Gothic Literature might include tier 2 words such as marginalised, uncanny, and macabre. This sheet can be adapted to suit other key words, and provides a visual aid, along with links to prior learning.
