Practice: Preterit imperfect sentence completion and uses

Complete each sentence with a conjugated verb in the preterit or imperfect and add 3-4 words to expand on the sentence in an original manner. Your sentences must make sense. (20 total)

*Students will complete 10 sentences in the preterit and 10 in the imperfect.

Sample:

  1. Clue word (Ayer) + Subject (yo) + ____________________ (Conjugated verb) + ________________ (Rest)

Uses of preterit v imperfect: For each descriptor, write an X under the appropriate tense (preterit or imperfect). *18 total

Sample:

  1. Completed action

  2. Habitual action (“Used to do”)

Answer key is included on page 3 for the uses of preterit v imperfect only. For the sentence completion, student answers will vary.

This practice can be used for classwork, homework, review, entry / exit slip, quiz / test, or sub plans.
