This Roman Mosaic Art unit is perfect to use alongside a fascinating Roman history topic or study of the volcanic eruption in the ancient Italian city of Pompeii. This fully resourced and planned unit takes students through the process of creating their own mosaic art, drawing inspiration from the ancient city of Pompeii.

Over the course of three lessons, children will explore real-life mosaics, understand the techniques used by ancient artists, and apply their learning by creating a marine animal mosaic. From sketching their chosen animal to using grid techniques, students will bring their ideas to life using paint, before assembling their mosaics with cut squares on backing paper.
