Here are 3 puzzles of differing levels of difficulty. This type of puzzle is known as a codeword crossword or cipher crossword.
The students are given a grid with blank squares and a number in the top left corner, the number stands for a letter. In the recording grid at the bottom the students given 3 or 4 helper letters and which numbers they represent. The student fills in all instances of each number/letter and then use their knowledge to decipher the other letters and words.
