This lesson explores why freedom of religion is protected under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and why it matters today. Pupils study examples from China (Uyghur Muslims) and Afghanistan (women under Taliban rule), reflecting on how restricting religious freedom affects dignity, safety, and equality. Activities include guided reading, gap-fill tasks, a “freedom box” activity, creative poetry from the perspective of someone denied religious freedom, and designing a social media campaign to raise awareness.
