
Component 1 Scheme of Work – BTEC Performing Arts (Pearson Level 2)
This full-term scheme of work has been carefully designed to deliver Component 1: Exploring the Performing Arts for the Pearson BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts (Level 2). Using Disney’s The Lion King: The Musical as its central focus, the scheme introduces learners to professional repertoire and performance styles while ensuring complete coverage of the unit’s assessment requirements.
Structure
Three lessons per week for a full term (approx. 12 weeks).
Fully adaptable to different timetables and teaching groups.
Includes pathways for Musical Theatre, Acting, and Production Arts, enabling teachers to deliver a broad curriculum or tailor lessons to their chosen focus.
Content Overview
Practical Workshops: Learners take part in movement, voice, singing, and ensemble work inspired by The Lion King. They explore storytelling through choreography, characterisation, and musical theatre staging techniques.
Acting Pathway: Focus on character development, script work, and ensemble performance, linked to key scenes from the musical.
Musical Theatre Pathway: Integration of singing, acting, and movement to develop confidence in triple-threat performance skills.
Production Arts Pathway: Exploration of set, costume, lighting, sound, and stage management. Students examine how technical elements support storytelling and create atmosphere.
Research and Contextual Study: Guided activities and tasks that allow students to investigate the background, style, and impact of The Lion King as a professional work, and make comparisons with other productions.
Reflection and Evaluation: Opportunities for learners to analyse their own practical work, linking personal development to professional practice and industry standards.
