A unit designed for ACARA version 9. Lessons designed for 70 minute periods with a mixed range of abilities.

The lesson begins with tips for how to incorporate ethos into their speech. There are some successful and unsuccessful examples. There are some prompts where students practice using this persuasive device. Following this we move onto paragraph writing skills. Students are introduced to the ide of “name it, quote it, explain it.” There are shown a structure of the speech and what each body paragraph will be about. We then look at some posts for Kylie Jenner which are discussed in the exemplar. I show them an example introduction and an example body 2 about how Kylie Jenner has been represented. Then we co-construct one about Jameela Jamil. Then students do their own for Abbie Chatfield. If time, there are some activities for using pathos and logos in speeches too.
