This lesson continues the exploration of children’s rights introduced in previous sessions, focusing on the link between rights and responsibilities. Pupils will develop empathy for others whose access to education may be limited and reflect on their own role as responsible citizens within their classroom and school community.
Learning Objectives:
Understand key rights of children, including the right to learn, be safe, be heard, and be healthy.
Recognise the responsibilities that come with these rights in school and beyond.
Empathise with children in different circumstances locally and globally.
Reflect on how they can contribute positively to their school community.
Activities Include:
Rights & Responsibilities Card Sort: Pupils match child-friendly rights cards with corresponding responsibilities and discuss in groups.
Rights in Action Scenarios: Small group discussions or role-plays where pupils consider real-life situations (e.g., exclusion from play, refugee children, disability access) and the responsibilities of themselves and others.
Reflection (Seesaw or Jigsaw Journal): Children write about a right that matters most to them and how they can act responsibly to protect it.
