The Weaving Shadows synopsis:
Mr. Hayden has moved into an old house with his sister and niece. He is unable to sleep at night because he is woken up by shadows that form and move in his room. He sometimes feels smothered by something and has trouble breathing. As he investigates, Hayden notices blood on the floor. Hayden’s sister and niece both look tired in the morning and complain about their fatigue. Mr. Hayden decides to visit detective Chet Burke for answers. Chet accompanies Hayden to his sister’s house. He talks to the residents in town and discovers that the house was previously owned by a man who let his sister and niece live with him. A few weeks later, the niece and sister were never seen again and the man is not investigated. That evening, Hayden and Burke sleep in the same room and await the weaving shadows to make their eerie nightly moves. Is it all in their imaginations or are the shadows supernatural? Find out in The Weaving Shadows readers’ theatre unit!

Mr. Marvel’s Musings:
One character shoots himself in the head. It is not a graphic depiction. There is a flash and then another character notes a hole in their head. The victim then looks up at another character.
Possible discussion questions: Was the house haunted? Why wasn’t the previous owner investigated? Why did the owners decide to stay in the house despite the eerie happenings? Is Burke a good detective?

I hope you, and your students enjoy discussing The Weaving Shadows and continue to do so for many years.
Excelsior!
