We explore the key themes and messages of the poem, analysing how the speaker describes nature, the classroom and how being caged in from the beauty of summer outside affects his education and learning.
Additionally, we look at the context of the poem, exploring the Romantic poets, the pastoral tradition and Blake’s ideas on an alternative forms of education that wanted to embrace the natural world.
