Year 7 RE Lesson: The Life of Siddhartha – How Did He Become the Buddha?
School logos have been removed.
This lesson explores the life of Siddhartha Gautama and his journey to enlightenment. Pupils learn about his upbringing, the Four Sights, his ascetic life, and his eventual awakening under the Bodhi tree. Activities include guided reading, comprehension questions, differentiated evaluation sheets for higher and lower abilities, and extended writing on which part of his life was most important.

Learning aims:

Describe the key events in the Buddha’s life

Explain why Siddhartha left his palace and how he sought answers to suffering

Reflect on the meaning of enlightenment in Buddhism

Evaluate which part of Siddhartha’s story was the most significant
