What’s included?
This download includes x2 resources which have been designed to use separately AND together. There are x25 pdf sheets.
What’s it for?
This download includes two activities which can be used together. These resources enable learners to use their knowledge of the sounds s a t p i n to match graphemes with the corresponding picture AND word (resource 1). Once these ‘sound/word/picture’ jigsaw puzzles have been completed learners can use their knowledge of Phase 2/3 sounds to write these words (resource 2).
Who’s it for?
This resource set has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support.
Resource 1
’Grapheme/word/picture’ match puzzles
There are x10 images for the sounds s/a/t/p and x5 images for letters ‘i’ and ’n’.
The tick in each jigsaw puzzle picture box (top right) indicates that this image is a word which can be sounded out. Once they have matched all the three-part jigsaw puzzles learners can write these words (resource 2).
How to use it?
An adult prints out ‘Grapheme/picture match puzzles’ sheet onto card and cuts along the dotted lines, including to separate ‘letters/graphemes’ from ‘words’ and ‘pictures’. The set of cut up letters/words/pictures can then be placed on a table top for learners to match as ‘three part’ mini jigsaw puzzles. Each letter only fits the corresponding word and picture.

Resource 2
Writing words resource
Two differentiated ‘writing words’ sheets are included. Page 1 provides more support for learners than page 2 as page 1 includes the number of lines to write on - showing how many sounds are in each word. Page 2 has one line for each word.
- Pages 1-2. Learners sound out and write the words for the pictures featured on the sheet, one picture per box.
Red letters/lines (to write on) indicate a ‘tricky’ sound which may be difficult to hear clearly when the word is spoken. E.g. ‘planets’ is often said as ‘planits’ with an ‘i’ sound. Learners may need help with these (red) letters/sounds.
- Page 3 clearly shows the answers.
