Lesson 1 and 2 of Branch 3 Galilee to Jerusalem of the RED framework. These lessons are planned to run as one Worship morning but can be run separately.
Included is topic cover page to begin this topic, vocabulary for display, planning, teaching slides, a self-assessment graphic/vocabulary checkpoint to assess what learners know about some of the aspects of this topic to return to at the end.
There is scaffolding to support learners access activities within both lessons.
The lessons focus on learning outcomes.
U4.3.1 Show understanding of why some people gave Jesus the title ‘Christ’ (the anointed one) by making links with the Scripture studied. (Wk1)
U4.3.2 Make links between Jesus’ speech to John the Baptist’s followers and signs that he is the Messiah. (wk 1)
Believe
U4.3.5Make relevant links between the belief in that Jesus is the Messiah and the Nicene Creed (specifically Articles 2-4) and suggest why Catholics say this prayer. (Wk 1)
By the end of this unit of study, students will know that the Church teaches that:
• Jesus is the Messiah/Christ but in a way that subverted the expectations of those of his own day: Jesus comes as a suffering servant, not a triumphant king.
• Jesus is fully God and fully human. We call this belief the incarnation.
