What’s included?
This download includes four resource sets. In total this is x4 sheets, landscape orientation, pdf format. These resources are to read/sound out high frequency words (nouns). This set of words has been grouped as words that can be sounded out from phonics Phases 2, 3, 5 and 6+ and a tricky word set.
What’s it for?
These x4 resource sets are a selection of the first 200 high frequency words to look more closely at nouns. Learners can sound out nouns and become more familiar with seeing/reading them on sight. Learners also match the nouns with the corresponding pictures. All words have been sorted into colour groups depending on which phonics phase they fit in with so words can be introduced at the right time for your learners.
Who’s it for?
This resource has been designed for pupils in Year 1 who are learning these sounds (and words) for the first time, pupils in Y2 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds/words. This resource is ideal for pupils with EAL (English as an Additional Language) and suitable for older learners with additional learning needs.
How to use it?
Learners follow dotted lines to cut out words at the base of the sheet and sound out graphemes to read the nouns. Learners then match noun words with the pictures - positioning the words in the boxes underneath the pictures. Words are to be secured with glue once learners are happy they have matched each noun and picture correctly.
Top tip!
To avoid words getting lost encourage learners to only cut out one word at a time. Once learners have secured each word to the sheet (with glue!) they can move on to cutting out the next word.

KEY
Words have been organised depending on which phonics phase they fit in with. This colour coded system is made clear by the ‘key’ at the top, right side of each resource sheet.
- pink indicates that the words are from phase 2
- purple indicates that the words are from phase 3
- turquoise indicates that the words are from phase 5
- grey indicates that the words are from phase 6+
- underlined indicates that together underlined letters have one sound, for example ‘o·É’ in ‘t´Ç·É²Ô’
- red letters indicate the tricky letters. Red/tricky letters includes ‘irregular’ letters/sounds.
For the tricky word set learners should focus on the black letters in the words as these will help them decode and work out what the word might be.
