These lessons allows KS3 students to consider the themes, language and structure of the novel Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman. The extracts are approached on a step by step basis, making the resource suitable for KS3 students beginning GCSE style studies or weaker KS4 students who find Language Paper 1 texts challenging. Each lesson has an accompanying writing task, which follows the format of GCSE original writing questions.

The lessons can be used as part of wider teaching of the novel at KS3, as an introduction to the genre of Dystopian texts. They can also be uses as simplified text for weaker KS4 students who have enjoyed other dystopian texts like ‘The Hunger Games’ or ‘Animal Farm’
