Summary worksheets for the Liver and Kidney (for the Excretion topic in Module 5 OCR ‘A’ A-level Biology).

Please note this download does not include worksheets on the effects of kidney failure/treatment of kidney failure or how excretory products are used in diagnosis).

Three worksheets are included (plus differentiated versions):
Worksheet 1: Gross structure of the liver
Worksheet 2: Histology of the liver (labeling a liver lobule - please note this worksheet contains diagrams NOT stained micrographs)
Worksheet 3: The three functions of the liver (carbohydrate metabolism, detoxification, deamination).

5 kidney summary worksheets for A-level Biology.

Worksheet 1: Gross structure of the kidney labelling worksheet.
Worksheet 2: Structure of the nephron & formation of glomerular filtrate.
Worksheet 3: Selective reabsorption (including co-transport of glucose).
Worksheet 4: The role of the loop of Henle in water reabsorption (maintenance of a sodium ion gradient) - one version suitable for AQA, one version suitable for OCR (includes chloride ions in the explanation).
Worksheet 5: Osmoregulation (role of ADH)

Includes differentiated versions of each worksheet where relevant (one scaffolded ‘fill in the blank’ style worksheet, and one with blank answer spaces).

Full answer sheets are included (both coloured and black and white, where relevant), which could also be used as a handout.

Encourage students to add colour to the worksheets to aid formation of visual memories.
