It introduces the students to the periodic table which some of them may already be familiar it.
It outlines the development of the periodic table and the contribution of Mendeleev. It describes the key features of the periodic table - groups and periods. It teaches the students how to read the periodic table. Emphasizes that students need to know the names and symbols of the 1st twenty elements. Provides a mnemonic for remembering the elements in order . It challenges the students to come up with their own mnemonic or a rap song for remembering the first 20 elements.
The classification of elements as metals , non-metals or metalloid and their relative positions in the periodic table.

It finishes with a summary worksheet to check understanding.
