• This teaching resource explains the work of Dr Émilie Saulnier-Talbot, a biogeographer from Université Laval, and Dr Hilary Corlett, a geologist from Memorial University. They are investigating how carbon is stored in seafloor sediments and took part in an ocean expedition to collect sediments.

• This resource also contains an interview with Émilie and Hilary and offers an insight into careers in Earth science.

• The activity sheet provides ‘talking points’ (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy) to prompt students to reflect on Émilie and Hilary’s research and challenges them to imagine what life would be like onboard a research ship.
