This 3-lesson KS3 3D modelling project is a hands-on and engaging Google SketchUp activity where students in Year 7 to Year 9 digitally recreate a section of their school. The project is fully scaffolded, supporting learners through real-world observation, sketching, and digital construction using Google SketchUp.

Students begin by taking photographs of their chosen building section, sketching a top-down plan, and completing a 10-point building checklist. They then use core SketchUp tools—Rectangle, Push/Pull, Orbit, Paint Bucket, and Move—to model their building in 3D.

This resource includes:

A clear student instruction sheet

A self-assessment checklist

A detailed marking rubric

An evidence log for tracking student progress

Perfect for Design & Technology, ICT, or cross-curricular STEM projects, this task builds spatial awareness, digital literacy, planning, and creativity. It’s highly adaptable for mixed abilities and can be used as an end-of-unit assessment or creative design challenge.
