This is a very simple template for a speaking activity for MFL to help save you time when planning & prepping. Use it to practise SSC’s for the new MFL GCSE (AQA). Good for 5-10 min starter or ‘dessert’ & good for regular engagement & practice with SSC’s.

I have called it ‘Dímelo’ as this version is Spanish but the game is easily adaptable.

The simplest version is that students choose a word, raise their hand, tell you that word in Spanish - if they tell you the Spanish correctly with no major (or minor - up to you) errors, then you reveal the square by clicking on it. There are five stars ‘hidden’ behind five of the words. You can reward students with stamps, stickers house points, etc. for finding a star. Hands up or teams - however you want. Finding the stars always gets a lot of participation from my groups.

How to adapt?

• Change the vocabulary items for words you are currently working on or that your students find particularly tricky.
• Colour-code the squares to represent points which equate to level of difficulty/Tier. (Just right-click on the square and click ‘fill’ to change the colour). The stars could then just be a bonus. The team with the most points wins.
• Make it 3-in-a-row or 4-in-a-row Os & Xs using the IWB or smart pen.
• Add in or remove stars.
• Add in other shapes or symbols in the revealed squares to mean things like ‘miss a go’ or ‘lose all points’ or ‘challenge’ & they have to use the word in a sentence for bonus points.
• It’s fair to say you can brighten it up with ‘icons’ or your Bitmoji to personalise it a bit!
