This is a ESOL Entry 3 Reading lesson with two main texts - an ESOL student newsletter article describing how they celebrate their special days here in the UK; and a notice asking for volunteers to help with Diwali preparations at the local temple.

A warmer focusing on a range of festivals from different cultures and religions is then followed by a discussion about celebrations. This is followed by exercises to introduce pre-reading vocabulary at word, phrase and idiom level. Learners engage with the texts through a range of ESOL Entry 3 exam-style questions.

These materials are designed to engage students with a relevant topic and challenging vocabulary whilst also practising the skills required to answer the different types of questions found in Entry 3 ESOL reading examinations.
