This is an 8 lesson focused practical task that requires students to manufacture a dustpan from the provided orthographic drawings. The base materials needed are Aluminium, Pine (softwood), Oak (hardwood) and Vinyl. It requires students to mark out and form metal using a press brake, to cut a housing joint and dowel joint and consider ergonomics whilst designing the handle shape.

The properties of the materials selected are explored and tested during the project as well as a range of standard components. The final few lessons require students to produce a CAD drawing of their project in a suitable orthographic format. We use a program called SpaceClaim for this but other programs could be used.

Each lesson includes two retrieval tasks, clear sharable lesson objectives, DNA (do now activities) and a Teacher narration slide as standard. There are embedded GIF’s (7 second animations) that demonstrate each task that is required from simple marking out to cutting joints to assembling the final CAD drawing. This supports all learners to make progress no matter what stage they are at and frees the teacher up to better support.

The file sizes for each lesson are big due to the inclusion of embedded videos and GIF’s. As a result, they cannot be uploaded to TES directly.
