We are delighted to share with you our six-weeks of fully resourced English planning for Years 5 and 6 (ages 9-11) based on ‘Cogheart’ by Peter Bunzl. Immerse your students in this gripping Victorian adventure where murder meets mayhem and mystery. Our thirty, fully resourced English lessons will take your class on a journey through the high-quality text, ‘Cogheart’. Our English lessons cover grammar concepts we have carefully and intricately linked to the text: commas, hyphens, parenthesis, expanded noun phrases, pronouns, determiners, conjunctions, adverbs, semicolons, colons, dashes, dialogue, adverbs of possibility and modal verbs. Not only have we linked each grammar concept to the exact chapter you are reading in each lesson, but our grammar activities are also meaningful: the children will apply them in three extended pieces of writing. Firstly, the children will write a newspaper article, following this they will write a narrative text and finally they will write a persuasive piece of writing.

As experienced teachers ourselves, we know how long quality planning takes! Therefore, we have saved you hours by including all the resources you will need. One of the most significant time savers are our bespoke teaching videos. These are videos which explain tricky grammar concepts to your class all whilst keeping to the theme of ‘Cogheart’. In addition to our teaching videos, we have included whiteboard slides, WAGOLL texts, all activities with adaptive teaching strategy suggestions and engaging images.

So download now and take your class on a journey back to London, 1896.

This is week 1 of a six-week scheme. The rest of the scheme can be found on Teaching From Text’s website.
