Learning resources that introduce the concept of climate science to KS2 pupils. Intended for teachers to use flexibly with their classes. The presentations include interactive elements such as ‘click and reveal’ to encourage class discussions and end with a short quiz.

Includes six lesson presentations and teachers notes:

  • Climate Literacy Teachers notes and additional resources
  • Climate Literacy introduction
  • Lesson 1: The Spheres of the Earth
  • Lesson 2: Weather and climate
  • Lesson 3: Greenhouse gases
  • Lesson 4: Carbon cycle
  • Lesson 5: People have changed the Earth’s climate

This Climate Literacy resource is intended to the Climate Change All Change (CCAC) ‘Design Literacy’ resource and is intended to provide background for the CCAC Co-design Climate Change programme. It can also be used as a stand-alone introduction into the subject of climate science and climate change.
The content of the resources derives from CCAC’s work with Year 5 children (9–10-year-olds) in UK state primary schools.

Learning outcomes:

  • Identify starting points for climate science knowledge and understanding
  • Develop curiosity about climate science and the atmospheric reasons for global heating
