This KS2 English resource is a complete unit of work based on Arthur and the Golden Rope, designed for Year 3 or Year 4 pupils. β˜… Lesson 1 – Sentence Writing from Visual Prompts: Children explore the book’s cover and map to write descriptive sentences using conjunctions and expanded noun phrases.
β˜… Lesson 2 – Joining Ideas with Conjunctions: Pupils practise combining short sentences using a range of conjunctions and apply a sentence checklist.
β˜… Lesson 3 – Creating and Labelling a Fantasy Map: Children design a setting and write extended labels using conjunctions to describe features.
β˜… Lesson 4 – Describing a Mythical Creature: Using visual prompts, pupils write detailed paragraphs about invented creatures with varied sentence structures.
β˜… Lesson 5 – Using Powerful Verbs for Movement: Focus on verb choice to describe character movement through a setting, supported by a Venn diagram activity.
β˜… Lesson 6 – Planning a Narrative Journey: Children use their maps and creatures to plan a story using a structured grid with vocabulary prompts.
β˜… Lesson 7 – Drafting the Opening Paragraph: Pupils write the beginning of their story, focusing on sensory description and sentence variety.
β˜… Lesson 8 – Writing the Action and Conflict: Children develop the middle of their story, adding suspense and dialogue using strong verbs and conjunctions.
