A tried-and tested mock paper for the common synonym question type featured in Verbal Reasoning common entrance exams. This is a verbal reasoning question type which assesses students vocabulary and understanding of words.
Synonym questions can involve two groups of words seperated by a space. Students must choose a word from the first group, and a word from the second group, that are closest in meaning.
This would be suitable for Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students that are preparing for 11+, ISEB and any common entrance exam. I have used this paper to support many tutoring students in preparing for their 11 plus.
This is an original practice paper that I have designed to simulate the question format, style and word choices for this verbal reasoning question type.
You can use these questions to simulate timed conditions. You can give 30 seconds per questions, so 5 minutes for 10 questions or 25 minutes to complete 50 questions.
This can be used to support this particular question type, if your child/student is struggling with this one. It can also be used to assess accuracy and speed, as well as vocabulary.
An example question and directions are included at the start of the practice paper.
I have included a mark scheme at the end of the test.
